The American Academy of Family Physicians sold their soul to Coca-Cola
“The Coca-Cola Company is providing a grant to the AAFP to develop consumer education content on beverages and sweeteners for FamilyDoctor.org, an award-winning consumer health and wellness resource.”
Pardon my language, but what the shit?!
Coca-Cola’s been mighty busy redefining itself as a wellness organization with a genuine interest in promoting exercise and sensible eating habits. I’ve actually visited the mycokerewards.com website recently to cash in the cokerewards points that I won playing Subway Scrabble (I netted myself a free Blockbuster rental, btw), and was polled on how important exercise and healthy eating is to me. My first thought was, “Why do you care?” I’m fairly certain the answer has more to do with protecting future sales in the face of a proposed soda tax than with sincere concern for my health. By fairly certain, I mean 100% positive. The Coca-Cola Company must be proud as punch about this new partnership. Family physicians teaming up with soda. Faaaantastic.
